Nuclei in the Cosmos, a volume of conference papers, gathers together astronomers, astrophysicists, and nuclear physicists for a thorough discussion of nucleosynthesis, its role in the evolution of the universe, and its intriguing possibilities as a diagnostic tool for stellar interiors. Nineteen invited papers provide a solid review of nucleosynthesis topics, and approximately another 70 papers bring you up-to-date on the forefront of research in this quickly-developing area. Book News Annotation:
The July 1992 symposium brought together astronomers,
astrophysicists, and nuclear physicists for a discussion of
nucleosynthesis, its role in the evolution of the universe, and its
possibilities as a diagnostic tool for stellar interiors. The
contributions are grouped into four sections: astronomical facts
(supernovae studies, circumstellar envelopes, chemically peculiar
stars, composition of cosmic rays, anomalies in meteorites); nuclear
physics (charged- particle thermonuclear reactions, s-process
studies, radioactive nuclear beams, nuclear reaction rates); the
early universe and galactic evolution (primordial nucleosynthesis,
chemical evolution of galaxies); and stellar models and
nucleosynthesis (the s-process in AGB stars, explosive
nucleosynthesis, the r-process in the hot-bubble, solar neutrino
experiments. No subject index.
